The kitchen came out IN CRE DI BLE with so many amazing details. We’re still in shock and awe. Not to compare you with other contractors we have worked with, but you have easily raised the bar very high on our expectations. You simply are the best! We have done two major renovations with Franke Construction and have been very pleased with both the quality and the price. Fred is transparent with his estimates and billing. We also appreciate that he is responsive and proactive in communicating with us.
Fred and his crew are very pleasant to work with and to have inside our home. His subs almost always exceed our expectations for quality.
In our experience with several renovations with various GCs, something is bound to come up. We have been so pleased with Fred’s commitment to make it right.

We had a great experience with Franke Contracting. Fred and his team remodeled both our master and hall baths this summer. We did our due diligence before starting the remodels and got quotes from a number of different sources, including a design/contracting company (Lars), Lowes and two other general contractors. Ultimately we went with Fred because he came highly recommended by a coworker who has extremely high standards, and his quote was very detailed and fair considering the work we were asking him to do.
We reconfigured our master bath and Fred had great suggestions on the layout. He was extremely detail oriented with regards to things like the placement of the shower door and how it would swing, location of plugs for ease of use, and location of shower fixtures for both visual appeal and ease of use. I welcomed his input and appreciated his availability when we had questions throughout the project.
We took both bathrooms down to the studs, so our projects included drywall, painting, plumbing, electrical, tiling, cabinetry, new doors and finishing work and I don’t have one bad thing to say about any of those steps. I was particularly impressed by Fred’s tile guy, Misiel, who did a beautiful job on our walk in shower in the master bath, and herringbone and hexagon marble floors in the master and hall bath respectively. Our job was completed two weeks ahead of schedule and on budget. I highly recommend Franke Contracting and would definitely work with them again if I had the opportunity.

We interviewed four contractors for the remodel of our Rancho Santa Fe casita. Both of us were impressed with Fred from the start, making our choice easy. He came across as friendly, knowledgeable, articulate and responsive. Over the course of the project, our confidence in him just continued to grow. He was always accessible and never once made a promise he didn’t keep. We ran into a lot of bumps along the way, mainly due to post Covid supply line issues. Through no fault of Fred’s, the project took over two years to complete. One vendor in particular caused a one-year delay. Fred was our strong advocate with this vendor and was masterful in negotiating a resolution. We have recommended Fred to everyone we know and we would be honored and delighted to talk on the phone with anyone interested in vetting him as a contractor. We believe there is no finer contractor in Southern California.

We found Fred Franke through our architects, after we had a poor experience with the contractor we had originally planned to work with. Our architects, who are very discerning, both said that if they ever need a contractor for their own homes, this is who they would choose. We are so grateful for this recommendation.
We did a massive remodel, down to studs, on our 1939 historic home. I cannot imagine having gone through this with our original contractor, or really anyone else. Fred gave us an accurate and honest estimate of costs and timeline, he made sure to keep us updated throughout the process, and welcomed all of our questions. Whenever we thought there might be a problem or something was overlooked, he was always way ahead of us, aware of it and with answers. He is extremely knowledgeable, able to provide solutions to the inevitable problems that arise when working on an old home.
His team of guys are very skilled and helpful, and he subcontracts with the best, so the quality of the finished work is excellent. I do not recommend using a contractor who does all the work themselves. You want someone who works with other true experts in their respective fields. Fred has been doing this a long time in San Diego and has relationships with the best. He is also skilled at working with the city and getting permits and things through. And he really went above and beyond for us to coordinate with the other folks we hired to complete the project (pool company, landscape company, and even Tesla for installing home batteries and car chargers).
Beyond all the work, he became a friend through the process. He is honest, funny, and kind. He would always take time to chat with our neighbors and our families. We are looking forward to having him and his family over for dinner in our new home.
We have now been in the house for a year and he just checked in with us a couple weeks ago to make sure there were no issues that had arisen. This review is honestly hard to write because it is hard to put into words how grateful we were to have worked with him. We have recommended him to friends and colleagues for their work and do so without reservation. If you are looking for a contractor, I hope for your sake that you get to work with Fred.
